How to Measure and Apply Self-Adhesive Wallpaper
For self-adhesive wallpaper, start with the actual width and height of the area you want to cover. Room photographs offer decorating ideas; use measurements taken with a tape measure for your order. Our current Sim Tasarım wallpapers need no separate wallpaper paste, and adjacent strips are applied with a 1 cm printed-pattern overlap.
1. Measure at several points
- Define the area to cover. Measure its width at the top, middle and bottom, and its height on the left, in the middle and on the right. Record the measurements in centimetres.
- Note the largest width and the largest height separately. A single measurement can miss an uneven wall.
- Take a photograph showing sockets, windows, doors, skirting boards and recesses. Confirm the print and strip layout with us before deducting openings from the dimensions.
- Ask whether any trimming or fitting allowance is needed. Confirm the final order dimensions and allowance before production.
2. Keep centimetres and square metres separate
A wall measuring 240 cm wide × 260 cm high has an area of 2.40 × 2.60 = 6.24 m². When a product is priced per 1 m², this area is the basis of the calculation; check the final price in the measurement selector and basket. If a field requests centimetres, enter 240 rather than 2.40.
The 1 cm overlap is not an arbitrary allowance to add to your wall measurement. It is the repeated printed area shared by neighbouring strips. Confirm the production layout instead of adding an extra centimetre for each strip yourself.
3. Prepare the wall and the strips
The wall must be clean, dry, dust-free, smooth and sound. Do not start on damp, textured or flaking surfaces. For newly painted walls, follow the paint manufacturer’s full drying and curing instructions.
- Before sticking anything down, lay out all strips in order and check the pattern continuity and ordered dimensions.
- Establish a vertical reference for the first strip rather than assuming that the corner is straight.
- Peel the backing away gradually instead of removing it all at once, and smooth the material without forcing the surface.
- Match the repeated design on the next strip over the previous strip with a 1 cm overlap. Do not install the strips edge to edge with no overlap.
- If the pattern does not match or the surface presents a problem, stop and send us photographs of the wall and strips before continuing.
Check before ordering
Confirm the width/height field order, units, how the design fits your dimensions and the strip layout. The Pink Peony Wallpaper page gives an example of product-specific measuring and pricing information. Explore the self-adhesive wallpaper collection for other designs.
